If you live in a rent-stabilized apartment in Cobble Hill Towers, and they try to jack up your rent by basing the increase on the legal rate instead of the preferential rate, you should know that they might or might not have the right to do so. As this Q&A in the Times advises, you need to check your original lease to see how it was written.

And YES, if you've already signed your lease and it was incorrect, chances are pretty good that they'll have to give you a new lease AND pay you back the extra money you've been paying them.
